PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
October 6, 2016
I can’t believe we are already into the fall and just finished our major event of the year, the South Jersey Wine and Food Festival. This year as an association, we had to complete the event without the help of our event coordinator, Arlene Blosch. She unfortunately could not direct in the organizing of the event due to serious health issues. Jennie Ayres from Atlantic Cape Community College graciously stepped in as the event coordinator. She orchestrated a stupendous event with the help of an amazing group of volunteers. With everyone collaborating together, thousands of people from all over including the tristate area could enjoy a fabulous festival with local wines, delicious food and joyful music. Caesar’s Entertainment became our grand sponsor and was very proud to be a part of such a fine winefest. The park was beautifully decorated under the direction of John Kurtz of the County Seat Florist. We had nothing but 5 star reviews all over social media. As the president, I want to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone that helped make this event such a sensation. It truly could not have been as successful without the help of all the volunteers.

NEWSLETTER FROM THE APRIL 1, 2015 MAYS LANDING MERCHANTS MEETING
GUEST SPEAKER Joe Molineaux, Director of NJ Small Business Development Center at Stockton University who helps businesses start up and save time and save money spoke at our meeting. Joe stated we need a plan by determining what is missing in Mays Landing and develop a unified goal for Main Street. We have a sense of community. Small businesses have failed in town due to competition. Joe recommends business should have a web presence. Main Street needs to be a trendy place. People are creatures of habit. Maybe one day a week there would be a reason to go to Main Street. We need a reason to discover something on the street. The incoming businesses should specialize to the demographics and possible 15-19 year olds. The community should have an open welcome mat. Possible businesses to have on Main Street are art centers, eateries with music, and theater for local filmmakers to have viewings. There needs to be action to produce a vibrant, active Main Street. It needs to be a pleasant experience and the word needs to be spread through social media to get people thinking to travel down Main Street. We need to figure out how to change the mindset of owners of the vacant properties on Main Street and encouraging them to reinvest in their properties so to attract new businesses. Possible grant money from the state would be available to assist the home owners. Joe challenged everyone to come up with a list to invite new businesses to the area. To help with motivating the town, one of many ideas is to have a contest open to all residents for producing a short film with the theme “What Mays Landing Means to Me”.
New businesses coming into town need to be grouped. Also possible changing the name of Main Street since so many streets is called “Main Street”. The river is at one end and the lake is at the other and the street is centrally located, accessible and quaint.
News from members:
